FOOTWEAR AND LEATHER GOODS SOURCING: WHAT DO TRENDS DICTATE?
What are the prevailing trends in the fashion world?
Trend research agencies guide us mainly towards innovation and the adoption of sustainable practices in processes and materials, something that is reinforced by countries that have a strong fashion, leather and footwear industry such as Italy, Portugal or Brazil. In tannery and production processes, the adoption of sustainable methods is a theme that has been present in trend reports for several seasons and is growing more and more in the most important footwear and supply fairs. In relation to textures and finishes in materials, these are influenced by a new vision of the future and the technology already available in the present, which leads us to spatial and digital exploration, the adoption of AIs (Artificial Intelligence) in writing, art, fashion and leisure. These themes are reflected through color highlights that accompany the basic and timeless colors that flood the collections: white, brown and gray, with black as the main protagonist in different finishes of patent leather, nubuck or engraving.
Galactic silver and metallic tones.
This silver finish in matte or liquid look evokes the Space Age of yesteryear with a new vision, the Metaverse and science fiction. In general, metallics are present in various shades in fast fashion products and much of the fashion week collections for 2023, but silver stands out as the great protagonist of this range.
Retro Denim.
Denim is one of the materials that have been present in almost all collections since P/V23 appearing in two very different retro trends: Early 2000, with worn, and scruffy look, and the dark-toned, uniform denim in the style of the 70s.
Deep black
Black is one of the strongest colors for this year, this can be projected in textures of liquid and plastic appearance following the trend of Metaverse and Neo Goth, or in matte textures with minimalist cut that lends itself to the trend of designing durable fashion products and adopting the formality that resurfaces from this period of calm after the euphoric boom of the immediate post pandemic, as it is now urged to be cautious in these uncertain times.
Faux exotics.
Animal print leathers and crocodile prints with an otherworldly twist, through vibrant, metallic, plastic and iridescent tones, as if pulled from another world.
Subtle satin.
The birth of balletcore in Tik Tok and the interest in the ballet dancer aesthetic was revived on social media and on the runways with Miu Miu's satin ballerinas becoming relevant again. Satin materials in textiles have flooded recent fashion collections and is a key material for footwear.
